OREANDA-NEWS  The German government has passed a bill on a new model of military service. This is reported by the DPA news agency.

"The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a bill on the modernization of military service," the report says.

It clarifies that the bill is aimed at strengthening the regular and reserve forces of the German army in order to counter current security threats.

It is assumed that Germany will introduce service on a voluntary basis according to the Swedish model — all school graduates are subject to military inspection, but only some of them eventually serve on active duty.

Earlier, the Central Union of German Ports appealed to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius with a request to allocate money from the defense budget to prepare for a possible war. The union said that in the event of a conflict, ports become the "first line of attack."
