OREANDA-NEWS  Greek police detained 47 people during inspections before thousands marched to the American embassy as part of the anniversary of the uprising of students of the Polytechnic University, the Greek TV channel Sky reported on Monday.

Commemorative events on the anniversary of the 1973 student uprising in Greece take place over three days and traditionally end with a march to the American embassy, as the Greeks accuse the United States of supporting the military dictatorship of the "black colonels" who were in power in Greece from 1967 to 1974.

"Starting from Monday afternoon, on the day of the uprising, the police made 47 arrests at the Polytechnic University as part of preventive checks, 11 of which ended in arrests," the TV channel said in a statement.
