OREANDA-NEWS  The Hungarian parliament voted to strip the immunity of Prime Minister Peter Magyar due to a mobile phone theft incident in 2024, when he was a member of the European Parliament (EP). This is reported by Telex.

"Two weeks after the 2024 European Parliament elections, on June 21, Magyar had an argument with a man who filmed him in a nightclub in Budapest in the early morning. Magyar suddenly snatched the phone from the victim's hands and then threw it into the Danube. The phone was later recovered from the water with the help of divers," the authors of the material explain.

In September 2024, the Prosecutor General's Office appealed to the European Parliament (EP) with a request to grant immunity to the Magyar, but they refused to do so. In May of this year, the investigation was resumed. ""The Hungarian prime minister asked members of his Tisa party to suspend his immunity, saying that he had not committed a crime and "would have acted the same way as then."

Now a criminal case will be opened against him.

Earlier, an egg was thrown at Magyar during a performance. After the incident, the man who threw an egg at the European prime minister said he "regretted that he did not hit the head."
