OREANDA-NEWS Budapest is not interested in an escalation in relations with Russia. This was stated by the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, TASS reports.
"The Hungarian government takes note of the decision of the Russian side [on the expulsion of diplomats], which we consider as a response to the actions taken earlier by Hungary. Hungary is not interested in escalating diplomatic tensions," the Hungarian Foreign Ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry noted that at the same time, Hungary firmly adheres to its previous decision, made for reasons of national security.
Earlier, the Charge d'affaires of Hungary in Russia, Gabor Gergich, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry. The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that the head of the diplomatic mission had expressed a strong protest in connection with the baseless and frankly unfriendly demand of the Hungarian authorities on September 8, 2026, for a number of Russian diplomatic staff to leave the country.
