OREANDA-NEWS. The omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus has reached the Australian capital Canberra and has been identified in a fully vaccinated person who has not traveled abroad, ABC reported.

The places of visit of the sick person since November 29 are given with the requirement for everyone in Canberra who also visited there during this period of time to fill out the appropriate declaration and get tested.

In the neighboring state of New South Wales, 13 cases of omicron infection have been identified, and another in the Northern Territory of Australia.

The 9News TV channel quotes New South Wales Health Minister Brad Hazzard as saying that there is no indication that omicron is more dangerous than other strains of COVID-19.

"We do not see people suddenly rushing to hospitals, and this is good," the TV channel quoted the official as saying. According to him, those infected with "omicron" do not have any symptoms, or they are generally "very mild."

At the same time, the new strain was identified in several high school students, which the authorities closed before the end of the year.
