OREANDA-NEWS   Negotiations between Lithuania and Belarus on the issue of border settlement are inevitable. This was stated by former Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, LRT reports.

"I have no doubt that in order to somehow resolve this situation now, in which we are actually already on the losing side, negotiations at the political level will be inevitable," he said.

The politician noted that closing the borders could be a means of putting pressure on Minsk, but such a step was taken incorrectly. According to him, Lithuania had instruments of influence on Belarus, but as a result of the measures taken, Vilnius did not achieve its goals.

Earlier, the head of the ruling Social Democratic Party of Lithuania, Mindaugas Sinkevicius, said that Lithuania could consider restricting transit to Kaliningrad as one of the tough measures to put pressure on Belarus and Russia. He noted that such a step should be coordinated within the framework of the European Union.
