OREANDA-NEWS  Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke about her decision to continue purchasing gas from Russia after 2014 at an event hosted by the newspaper Die Zeit. Her comments were quoted by TASS.

Merkel described her decision to buy Russian gas as the right one after 2014, saying, "I did what I could at that time." She recalled writing about the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines in her book, stressing that it was not a mistake to secure cheap gas for a few more years. However, she also called on European countries to stand together in light of the current global situation.

Previously, Merkel had approved the severing of energy ties between Germany and Russia, but she noted that Ukraine had not opposed Russian gas supplies to Europe at that time.
