Merz acknowledged Germany's failure at the UN

OREANDA-NEWS German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has acknowledged the failure of Germany's bid for the election of members of the UN Security Council for the period 2027-2028. This is reported by TASS.
"We put forward our candidacy with firm conviction. We have not achieved our goal," the politician said. He also congratulated all the elected states, especially Germany's direct competitors.
On June 3, the UN General Assembly elected five new non-permanent members of the Security Council for a two-year term. The places went to Austria, Portugal, Zimbabwe and Trinidad and Tobago. Germany was also among the candidates.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Alimov told the correspondent of "Lenta.On the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Russia did not expect changes in the positions of countries that applied for non-permanent seats on the UN Security Council from Western Europe.
