OREANDA-NEWS Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he had a detailed telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump.
"I had a very warm and meaningful conversation with Trump. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments. India and the United States will continue to work together for global peace, stability and prosperity," Modi wrote on the social network X.
The Hindustan Times reported, citing sources, that "the leaders exchanged views on expanding cooperation in trade, critical technologies, energy, defense and security."
The leaders of the countries agreed to "stay in touch."
In October, Trump told business leaders in South Korea ahead of the opening APEC summit that he was committed to concluding a trade agreement with India.
Relations between the United States and India deteriorated after a 25 percent tariff on Indian goods imposed by Trump over purchases of Russian oil came into force on August 27. Thus, starting from August 27, goods from India will be subject to a 50% duty by the United States, taking into account the previously imposed tariffs of 25% as part of the White House's revision of trade agreements with countries around the world.
