OREANDA-NEWS At least 21 people were killed and about 100 injured in a collision between two high-speed trains in southern Spain on Sunday evening, local media reported. According to them, there were a total of 400 people on the two trains.

The Spanish Interior Ministry confirmed that 21 people were killed, about 100 people were injured, 25 of them seriously.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, in turn, said he was closely monitoring the situation.

The railway infrastructure operator Adif reported that an evening train from Malaga to Madrid derailed and crashed into a train traveling from Madrid to Huelva. According to eyewitnesses, one of the carriages of the first train completely overturned.

The Adif clarified that the railway connection between Madrid and the cities of Andalusia has been discontinued.

Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente called the incident "strange" because it occurred on a flat section of track repaired in May 2025. He also said that the train that derailed was new, less than four years old. He confirmed that 21 people died as a result of the accident, noting that the number of victims could increase.
