OREANDA-NEWS  Moscow is a world leader in terms of the scale of the transition of public transport to electric traction. This statement was made by the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Anton Alikhanov on the air of the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio station.

"As far as I know, the capital city for the transition to electric traction in public transport is the first city on Earth to introduce electric transport," Alikhanov said, commenting on the contribution of the Moscow City Hall to the active development of urban electric transport.

At the same time, Moscow not only buys, but also produces: for example, in the near future, the production of lithium-ion batteries and traction batteries for electric buses will be launched in the metropolis. In addition to this plant, another one is being built, where the production of high-capacity batteries, including for civilian drones, will be launched.

The market for electric cars and hybrids is gaining momentum throughout Russia, Alikhanov noted. In confirmation of this, the minister cited sales figures: 54 thousand vehicles of this type were sold in the first half of 2026.

In March, it was reported that a project was being developed to upgrade taxi companies with domestic electric vehicles. The initiative was just being prepared for discussion at the regulatory level and was supposed to supplement the law on taxi localization.
