OREANDA-NEWS  The North Atlantic Alliance has begun to ratify the accession of Sweden and Finland. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, RIA Novosti reports.

"Today we will officially sign the protocols of accession, this gives rise to the ratification process," Stoltenberg announced at the signing ceremony, in the presence of the Foreign Ministers of Sweden and Finland, Anne Linde and Pekka Haavisto. The Secretary General also noted that "the doors of NATO remain open for European countries ready to contribute to ensuring common security."

According to the Secretary General, the ratification process may take several months.

Earlier it became known that Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto, Swedish Foreign Minister Anne Linde and the ambassadors of 30 NATO countries signed protocols on the accession of the two Nordic countries to the North Atlantic Alliance at an official ceremony at NATO headquarters.
