OREANDA-NEWS  The first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, promised to support the current head of the republic, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in the presidential elections in 2024. He spoke about this in his book "My life. From dependence to freedom," the Tengrinews portal reports.

In his opinion, the main reason for the protests in January 2022 was the struggle for power, the catalyst of which, in particular, was Nazarbayev's intention to transfer the chairmanship of the ruling Nur Otan party to Tokayev (Amanat from March 2022 — approx. <url>).

"Because it is believed that the leader of the party has a significantly increased chance of winning the election. Now the opponents are convinced that I will support Tokayev in the 2024 elections," he wrote in the book.

Earlier it was reported that in his memoirs, Nazarbayev also admitted for the first time that he has a second wife and two sons.
