OREANDA-NEWS  Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Alexander Gutsan reported that over 60,000 officials have been convicted in corruption cases in Russia over the past five years.

Speaking at the XI meeting of the Interstate Council for Combating Corruption in Minsk, he said that the amount of damages in these cases had increased almost one and a half times, and the value of the arrested property of the accused exceeded 800 billion rubles.

The Prosecutor General added that virtual money, which had previously been difficult to seize, was increasingly becoming the subject of corruption crimes.

"Their overcoming became possible as a result of the adoption in February of this year of a federal law developed with our active participation. He fixed the status of digital currency in criminal legislation, the procedure for its seizure and confiscation, and established the obligation of crypto exchanges and exchangers to provide the necessary information at the request of investigative authorities and the court," Gutsan said.

He noted that the adoption of the law "closed loopholes that allowed criminals to hide illegal capital in digital wallets, while remaining unpunished in many cases."
