OREANDA-NEWS The "godfather of heavy metal", co-founder and member of the Black Sabbath band Ozzy Osbourne, has died in the UK, Sky News reports, citing a statement from his family. He was 76 years old.
"With a sadness that simple words cannot express, we have to announce that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne died this morning," the family said. "He was surrounded by family and love."
On July 5, Osbourne took to the stage with Black Sabbath for the last time, giving a farewell concert in his native Birmingham. The concert was also attended by many stars, in particular Metallica, Slayer, Alice in Chains and Guns'n'Roses, the proceeds from ticket sales were donated to charity. The musician, who was previously diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, sang while sitting on a throne.
Osbourne played in Black Sabbath from 1969 to 1977, then pursued a solo career and in the 2000s participated in the MTV reality show about his life, The Osbourne Family. As a member of Black Sabbath, he was inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and he is a member of the British Music Hall of Fame both as a band member and as a solo artist. Osborne's name has stars on the Birmingham Walk of Stars and on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2014, he received the MTV Europe Music Awards in the Global Icon category.
