OREANDA-NEWS Permanent members of the UN Security Council - the Russian Federation and China - have used the right of veto against the American draft resolution on the conflict between Israel and the Hamas group.

10 countries voted in favor, three voted against, and two more countries abstained.

The vote was broadcast on the UN website.

The American version of the draft condemns the actions of Hamas, but at the same time expresses support for "any necessary action, such as a humanitarian pause" to supply food, fuel, water and other essentials to the civilian population of the Gaza Strip.

The day before, the Russian side announced that it would not vote for the American document and would propose its own version of the resolution for a vote. Russia's permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, said that the Americans had presented their "option saturated with politicized, inappropriate and extremely dubious provisions." Nebenzia drew attention to the fact that it does not require an immediate cease-fire by the warring parties.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Tuesday that the American project "defines practical steps that we can take" to resolve the situation.

On October 7, the Gaza-based radical group Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel. In response, the Israel Defense Forces launched a military operation against Hamas. On October 19, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant announced that Israeli troops could soon enter Gaza.
