OREANDA-NEWSRussia condemns the shelling of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Washington and reminds the United States of its international obligations to protect foreign missions. This is stated in a message circulated on Twitter on Thursday by the Russian embassy in the US capital.

“We condemn the shelling of the Cuban embassy in Washington. We believe that all countries rely on security guarantees provided by the host states in accordance with international legal obligations in matters of security for their diplomatic missions”, the Russian diplomatic mission noted.

On Thursday night, a man opened fire on the building of the Cuban Embassy in Washington. As a result, no one was hurt, but the building was damaged. As previously noted by the police, an off-road vehicle, probably connected to the suspect, was parked next to the diplomatic mission, inside which an American flag and a white mask were found. According to a Russian media correspondent in the metropolitan police, the identity of the shooter was established, he turned out to be a 42-year-old resident of Texas. He is now in custody and charged with “assault with the intent of killing”.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla described the bombardment of the embassy building as a terrorist act. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said he expects the results of the investigation from the US authorities and calls for compliance with the obligations to protect the diplomatic mission.
