Scientists have identified a new species of giant bear

OREANDA-NEWS Scientists have identified and described a new species of extinct giant bear, Urakan Borisyak, which lived in Russia about five to six million years ago. This is reported by RIA Novosti.
Alexey Lopatin, director of the Borisyak Paleontological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, clarified that this species was the largest of the modern brown bears, which weigh over 700 kilograms.
It is noted that, like all uracans, it was a large active predator capable of fast running. The study was conducted on the remains that were found on the territory of the Stavropol Territory.
Earlier, experts from the Volgograd Regional Botanical Garden summed up the results of the 2025 field season. In a few months, they conducted four expeditions and made a number of interesting discoveries.
