OREANDA-NEWS  The South Korean military conducted night artillery firing in the Koson border district of Gangwon Province, Yonhap news agency reported.

"The army will strive to increase combat readiness in order to respond promptly to any enemy provocations through practical training and trainings on the battlefield," the agency quoted a military statement.

About 300 military personnel took part in the exercises, and about 40 pieces of key equipment were involved, including the K9A1 self-propelled howitzer, the Chunmoo multiple launch rocket system, as well as counter-battery radar stations and unmanned aerial vehicles.

According to a military official, about 600 shells landed in the water south of the Northern Boundary Line (NLL) into the Sea of Japan.

It is noted that the army conducted such exercises in the maritime buffer zone near the Northern Border Line (NLL) for the first time since July last year.
