OREANDA-NEWS   At the largest oil refinery in Syria in the city of Banias, equipment was damaged as a result of an earthquake. The refinery has suspended work, repairs will take at least 48 hours. This was reported by the Syrian Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources.

According to him, a crack appeared in the chimney of the plant's power unit, which led to a leak of petroleum products. In addition, residential buildings where the ministry's employees live in Banias, as well as the supports of gas storage facilities in Aleppo were damaged, RIA Novosti reports the ministry's message. Earlier it was reported that a gas pipeline exploded in the Turkish province of Hatay.

Today, on February 6, an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 occurred in southern Turkey. Earthquakes were also recorded on the border with Syria. The death toll has already exceeded 500 people, more than 3 thousand people were injured. Russia, as well as the European Union, have declared their readiness to provide assistance to both countries.
