OREANDA-NEWS China began to put pressure on Iranian officials, demanding that Tehran not disrupt the export of Qatari gas and other energy resources through the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing its own sources.
She noted that Iran is not the only Persian Gulf country that supplies China with energy resources. Many countries in this region sell their hydrocarbons to Beijing. And these supplies go by water, through the Strait of Hormuz. The Chinese side is particularly concerned about the situation with Qatar, which accounts for one fifth of global liquefied natural gas (LNG) production. In addition, 30 percent of Chinese imports of this fuel come from Qatar. However, after Iran hit the Ras Laffan plant, production there stopped.
According to Bloomberg, Chinese officials have now begun to put pressure on their Iranian counterparts, demanding guarantees that Tehran will not hit the oil and LNG tankers that pass through the strait and, moreover, ensure an uninterrupted supply of hydrocarbons.
