OREANDA-NEWS  Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Janita Liyanage sent a request to the central bank of her country to re-consider the possibility of the Mir cards, the head of the diplomatic mission said.

"Negotiations on the use of Mir cards are underway. I have sent a request about this to the central bank of Sri Lanka. Now there is a discussion of this issue," Liyanage said.

Tourists coming to the island, she recalled, today can use the project of the National Investment and Industrial Bank and People's Bank in Sri Lanka: to do this, you need to create an account in this financial institution. After that, arriving on the island, they can get a local Visa card.

"In total, within the framework of this cooperation, more than 1 thousand plastic cards have been issued to People's Bank for Russians," the ambassador added.

Earlier, the central bank of Sri Lanka stated that it could not allow the use of Russian Mir cards in the country due to US sanctions.
