The closure of the R-Pharm plant in Germany threatens to disrupt the supply of tuberculosis drugs to the Russian Federation

OREANDA-NEWS The closure of the plant "R-Pharm" in Germany, threatening to disrupt supply has no analogues of the drug from tuberculosis in Russia. This is reported by the Telegram channel "Without a prescription".
The German subsidiary of R-Pharm, R-Pharm Germany GmbH, declared bankruptcy and closed the site in Illertissen, Bavaria, where Deltiba (delamanide) was produced for the treatment of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis.
In January, R-Pharm agreed with the Federal Center for Planning and Organization of Drug Provision for Citizens to supply 75.4 thousand packages of the drug in the amount of 523.6 million rubles. At the same time, in July, the company announced that it was ready to supply only 15,000 packages and warned that the drug supply would not be available in 2027.
Delamanid was developed by Japan's Otsuka Pharmaceutical and has been included in the WHO list of essential medicines since 2015. It is used when standard anti-tuberculosis drugs do not work. In Russia, Deltiba is included in the list of vital and essential medicines (VED), and the state guarantees its accessibility to patients. However, after the closure of the R-Pharm Germany plant, Russia loses the only supply channel for this drug, and it is not produced in the Russian Federation.
The Moscow-based R-Pharm company has once again postponed the launch of production of 31 drugs from the list of VED. Initially, the production of medicines at the Baltpharma plant was supposed to start in the first quarter of 2027. However, now the launch of drug production at the Novoorlovskaya site of the Saint Petersburg SEZ as part of the first St. Petersburg offset is postponed to 2028.
