OREANDA-NEWS  The European Foreign Policy Service (EBU) announced the EU's interest in maintaining the status quo in the Taiwan Strait against the background of the Chinese army's exercises around Taiwan, calling on the parties to exercise restraint.

As the document emphasizes, "all parties should exercise restraint and avoid any actions that could lead to further escalation of tension," which should be resolved through dialogue.

Comprehensive military exercises of the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) began around Taiwan on Thursday, the Chinese Ministry of Defense said.

In turn, the Taiwanese military is taking increased security measures in connection with these PLA exercises around the island, the Associated Press reported.

In particular, the Taiwanese command transferred land and naval forces, missile units to an enhanced service mode, and took fighter jets into the air.
