OREANDA-NEWS  The total capacity of artificial intelligence-related data centers (data centers, data centers) in Japan will increase approximately 4.5 times in the first half of the next decade, from 1.1 to 4.9 gigawatts by 2033. Nikkei writes about this with reference to the generalized production plans of 26 leading national companies in this sector.

As follows from the publication, such growth will require huge investments, namely, since the creation of one data center with an electricity consumption of one gigawatt costs Japan about $ 16 billion, we are talking about spending tens of billions of dollars on expanding the AI infrastructure.

Taking into account the fact that obtaining capacities of about 4.2 gigawatts can fully meet Japan's needs for AI services, all this will require a significant increase in electricity generation in the country, including the construction of new nuclear power plants.

According to the estimates given by the authors, in approximately the same time frame, the capacity of data centers in the United States will grow from 8.2 to 26.4 gigawatts, and in China from 3.1 to 10.3 gigawatts. Accordingly, Japan's indicator will become the third in the world.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump promised not to restrain the development of AI, which he called superintelligence. Meanwhile, according to media reports, employees of the world's leading companies in this field are massively experiencing psychological problems and are quitting due to worries about working on systems that, in their opinion, can seriously harm the future of humanity.
