OREANDA-NEWS. The statement of the military calling for the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was not made under pressure from anyone, the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces said on February, 25.

Sputnik Armenia agency published a statement of the General Staff: "This is a clear conviction and position of generals and officers, whose goal is one - to serve the salvation of the Motherland at this critical moment. Once again we confirm our clear position."

In its first appeal on the morning of February 25, the General Staff demanded Pashinyan's resignation and warned him against using force against his people. The prime minister, in turn, dismissed the head of the General Staff Onik Gasparyan.

Surrounded by his supporters, the head of government began a march through the streets of Yerevan and is going to make a statement on Republic Square at about 15:00 Moscow time.

At the same time, the leader of the opposition of Armenia Vazgen Manukyan stated that what is happening in the republic is not an attempt at a coup.

"This is not a coup, the army has the constitutional right to point out the main enemy that threatens the security of Armenia, and it pointed out, stating that it is Nikol Pashinyan," Manukyan said at the opposition rally. He called on the police, the National Security Service and other security officials to join the army.

According to him, "the authorities are in agony and are trying to play the people against the army." "We need determination and restraint. The case is already coming to an end, we must expel Pashinyan and restore the homeland through united efforts," Manukyan said.
