OREANDA-NEWS  In the second quarter of 2026, the growth rate of the global economy slowed to 0.7 percent, which is 0.1 percentage points lower than in the first quarter and the same amount worse than the average growth over the past six quarters. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the assessment of the International Monetary Fund.

The European economy grew by 0.6 percent last quarter after zero growth in the first quarter, while Asian GDP growth, on the contrary, dropped from 1.3 percent to 0.9 percent. In the Americas, the index stabilized at 0.5 percent. The African economy accelerated from 1.3 percent to 1.6 percent growth, while Oceania grew 0.5 percent and 0.4 percent in the last two quarters.

Asia made the largest contribution to growth, by 0.4 percentage points. At the same time, the contribution of developed countries increased from 0.1 in the first quarter to 0.2 percentage points, while the contribution of developing countries fell from 0.7 to 0.5 percentage points.

Earlier, the Bank of Russia revised down its forecast for GDP growth in 2026 from 0.5—1.5 percent to 0-1 percent.
