OREANDA-NEWS Budapest has no plans to send troops and weapons to Ukraine. This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Ministry Secretary Gyorgy Velkei in an interview with Bloomberg.

"No soldiers and no weapons. It is in Hungary's interest to guarantee peace in Hungary. This is extremely important for us," he said.

According to the Hungarian diplomat, Ukraine's support will be limited to energy supplies and humanitarian aid, even though the administration of Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar is seeking closer alignment with the main activities of the European Union.

Earlier, the Charge d'affaires of Hungary in Russia, Gabor Gergich, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry. The ministry reported that the head of the diplomatic mission had expressed a strong protest in connection with the baseless and unfriendly demand of the Hungarian authorities on September 8 for a number of Russian diplomatic staff to leave the country.

Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, did not rule out that Hungary's expulsion of Russian diplomats would affect economic cooperation between the countries.
