OREANDA-NEWS  The Japanese government was outraged by the trip to the Russian island of Iturup by Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev, the corresponding statement was made on Wednesday at a press conference by Secretary General of the Government of Japan Hirokazu Matsuno.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation - Presidential Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev visited Iturup Island on July 4, where he inspected a number of industrial facilities and held a meeting on the functioning of preferential treatment on the Kuril Islands. Deputy Prime Minister Trutnev instructed the Ministry of Regional Development of Russia, the Far East Development Corporation and the Sakhalin Oblast leadership to submit proposals for the development of the tourism industry and recreational projects, in particular, to work out the issue of creating an All-Russian children's health camp on the Kuril Islands.

"We are aware of the visit of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Trutnev to Iturup Island on July 4. The visits of Russian officials to the island of Iturup, illegally occupied by Russia, contradict our country's position on the territorial problem and are unacceptable," Matsuno said.

He confirmed the information that appeared in the media on Tuesday that Russia had been protested through the Embassy of the Russian Federation in connection with the visit.
