OREANDA-NEWS The Russian language should disappear from the Latvian media forever. A harsh statement was made by the Minister of Culture of Latvia, Nauris Puntulis, during a meeting of the Human Rights committee of the Parliament of the Republic, RIA Novosti reports.

According to him, there are no grounds for Russian-language content in the Latvian media, since Latvia is an "independent European nation-state."

"What does its abbreviation mean? It should disappear completely, that's all. Especially in the current military situation," the minister said.

Earlier, the Latvian government supported a ban on the import of books, clothes, toys and other categories of goods from Russia and Belarus. The list also includes newspapers, video games, sporting goods, and shoes.
