OREANDA-NEWS  The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has designated Russia as responsible for the downing of Flight MH17 in eastern Ukraine in 2014. The Dutch government has announced that compensation will be considered in the near future. Russia has consistently denied any involvement in the incident, stating that the missile that brought down the airliner originated from territory controlled by Kiev.

The Boeing 777, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, crashed on July 17, 2014, near Donetsk. The flight was carrying 298 passengers, all of whom perished. The Ukrainian government immediately blamed the militia of the Donetsk People's Republic for the crash, but they claimed they lacked the capability to shoot down an aircraft at such an altitude. Simultaneously, Ukraine refused to provide radar data, and the United States did not share satellite images, which, they claim, would have revealed the moment of the missile launch.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has determined that Russia was to blame for the downing of Flight MH17, in violation of the Chicago Convention, according to a statement released by the Dutch government.
