OREANDA-NEWS. Over the past week, 5.2 million US citizens have applied unemployment insurance claims, making the total number of those who does not have a job 22 million out of 159 million of the country’s workforce.

House building industry collapsed in March, industrial production recorded the largest drop since 1946, retail sales fell by 8.7 %. April results are expected to be even worse. This is pushing President Donald Trump to ease restrictions to save the economy, but many governors and local government leaders are opposed.

Rising unemployment figures lead to the growth of protests among the population. In Michigan and Oklahoma, thousands of people took part in protest rallies. In Michigan, some demonstrators were masked and armed. The protesters announced that they require the removal of the restrictions, as they lost their livelihood.
