OREANDA-NEWS The number of victims of the devastating earthquake in Venezuela has increased to 5,208. This was announced by the chairman of the country's parliament, Jorge Rodriguez, in his Telegram channel.

Over the past 24 hours, the number of those who could not be saved has increased by 139, while the number of those rescued has not changed. According to the latest data, assistance has already been provided to 128.32 thousand families. There are 23.82 thousand people in 107 temporary accommodation camps, and 17.9 thousand residents have been left homeless.

Rodriguez added that the earthquake damaged 856 buildings — 190 of them completely collapsed. More than 30 thousand special services personnel, more than 31 thousand volunteers and more than 2,000 foreign rescuers are involved in the elimination of the consequences of the disaster.

At the same time, tremors continue in the country. Seismologists have recorded 1,388 aftershocks.

Earlier, the UN called the approximate damage from the earthquake in Venezuela. According to experts, the amount can reach 6.7 billion dollars, which is almost six percent of the GDP of the Latin American country.
