OREANDA-NEWS  Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu spoke by phone with Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin, the Russian defense ministry said.

It is clarified that the conversation took place at the initiative of Washington. According to a Pentagon source, the parties discussed the incident with the American MQ-9 drone over the Black Sea. Austin, in particular, told his Russian counterpart that the United States would continue flights over international waters.

After the conversation, the head of the Pentagon said at a press conference that the great powers should set an example of transparency and sociability. He reiterated that the United States will fly where international law allows it, and called on Russian military aviation to act "safely and professionally."

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense reported that on the morning of March 14, an American MQ-9 drone with its transponders turned off violated the boundaries of the area of the temporary use of airspace over the Black Sea. According to the agency, the drone was moving towards the Russian border in Crimea, Russian fighter jets were lifted into the air to identify the intruder.
