OREANDA-NEWS  BRICS will strengthen cooperation with Tanzania and other East African countries in 2024. Russian Ambassador to the republic Andrey Avetisyan told the correspondent about this.

According to him, the BRICS, under the Russian chairmanship, will direct efforts to cooperate with new partners in Africa. This is inevitably due to Ethiopia's accession to the union in 2024, he noted.

"BRICS will become one of the areas where our cooperation with Tanzania and the countries of East Africa will develop even faster," the diplomat said during the event of the Valdai international discussion club "The Young Generation in an era of Change: a dialogue between Russian and African civil societies."

In 2024, Russia will become the chair country of the BRICS, an organization that currently unites Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. From January 1, the association will include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the priority of Russia's BRICS presidency would be to increase settlements in national currencies.
