OREANDA-NEWS   The transfer of Western tanks to Ukraine indicates the transition of the conflict in Ukraine to a new level of confrontation. Konstantin Gavrilov, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry delegation at the international talks in Vienna, called such consequences on the air of the Rossiya 24 TV channel.

"We used to deal with the issues of small arms here on the negotiating track, that is, preventing such weapons from entering conflict zones and so on, monitoring man-portable anti-aircraft missile systems and so on. The documents were developed, but now they are actually all set aside. It's just that the West does not comply with them and is really moving to a new level [of confrontation]," the Russian diplomat said.

Earlier, the US government decided to send 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine as part of a new package of military assistance. According to the American leader, this step was recommended to him by the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, since the supply of tanks "will increase Ukraine's ability to defend its territory and achieve its strategic goals."
