OREANDA-NEWS Unknown persons set fire to a temporary settlement on the shore of Lake Lanalhue in Bio-Bio province in southern Chile. There are no victims, because residents have repeatedly received threats about arson and managed to take out the property in advance. This is reported by the "Infobae news" agency.

"We expected arson or capture at any moment. This has been happening for a long time," local residents said.

The motives of the organizers of the arson are not clear.

In addition, another arson in Bio-Bio province was recorded on February 2 in forestry. Unknown persons destroyed seven woodworking machines and opened fire on the workers of the enterprise. The attackers left a pamphlet that spoke about the freedom of the Mapuche Indians.

The state of emergency in southern Chile was introduced on October 13, 2021, but so far this has not led to stabilization of the situation in the region.

Earlier it was reported that the second algal bloom began in Chile. It was discovered as part of a continuous monitoring program conducted by the Institute for Fisheries Development (IFOP). The IFOP representative did not have information on whether salmon farms were affected, but said that the bloom is still limited to the southern part of Aisen and that due to current conditions it should not continue to develop and affect the northern part of the region.
