OREANDA-NEWS The Swiss provider of civil aviation services SITA has decided to disconnect Russia from the international aviation top-level domain zone (.aero), which it administers. Izvestia writes about this with reference to sources in the airport holding, aircraft maintenance organizations and a large air carrier.

Some of the domestic air transport companies have already received a notification about the closure of access to this zone from November 10. "From November 10 , 2023 , SITA SC stops accepting orders for registration and renewal of domain registration in the domain zone .aero for customers from a number of countries, including the Russian Federation," reads the letter from one of the organizations authorized in Russia that register .aero domain names.

It is noted that it was not possible to immediately disconnect Russia from the SITA aviation domain zone. According to the publication, after receiving the notification, Ru-Center urgently extended the validity period of all its clients' domains for one year at its own expense in order to maintain the operability of their sites.

"For the complete peace of mind of our customers, we hedged against possible failures and extended the domains of this zone, whose service takes place with us," the press service of Ru-Center explained.

The organization added that currently registration and renewal of domains in the zone.aero is possible. Everything is working normally, as the restrictions have not yet entered into force.

Earlier in November, it was reported that regional airports wanted to develop the infrastructure of airfields due to an additional fee from passengers. The Regional Airports holdings (including the Rostov-on-Don, Yekaterinburg, Saratov air companies) and Novaport (Novosibirsk, Kaliningrad air terminals) have proposed to upgrade the infrastructure with the help of concessional loans for 25-30 years from the National Welfare Fund.
