OREANDA-NEWS  Those responsible for the attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), which targeted the civilian population of Russia, must be brought to justice. This was stated by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk.

"I am deeply concerned about reports of Ukrainian attacks that have killed civilians in Russia. The civilian population is strictly protected by the laws of war and should never be attacked," he said.

Turk stressed that the alleged violations should be investigated, and the perpetrators should be brought to justice. According to him, deliberate attacks on civilians can be regarded as war crimes.

Earlier, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern about the growing number of civilian casualties caused by the increased attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian territory.
