OREANDA-NEWS The US authorities will ban the import into the country of a number of types of non-industrial diamonds from Russia. This is stated in a statement by the US Treasury Department published on the agency's website.

According to a press release from the US Treasury, the restrictions will apply "from March 1, 2024 to non-industrial diamonds weighing 1 carat or more" and "from September 1, 2024 to non-industrial diamonds weighing 0.5 carats or more."

The document clarifies that the restrictions previously imposed by the American side will apply to these categories of diamonds, regardless of whether such diamonds have been significantly processed into other products outside the Russian Federation.

On January 1, 2024, the ban of the G7 countries (USA, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy and Japan) on the import of non-industrial natural diamonds, artificial diamonds and jewelry containing diamonds to the countries of the European Union from the Russian Federation came into force.

From September 1 of this year, EU countries will also stop importing synthetic diamonds processed in third countries, jewelry and wrist/pocket watches made in third countries using Russian diamonds weighing from 0.5 carats.
