OREANDA-NEWS  A new American bill, which was at the disposal of RIA Novosti, instructs the US president to take measures to ensure a complete ban on the import of Russian uranium, including Rosatom products, and to impose regular sanctions against the leadership of the state corporation.

"From the date of adoption of this law, the president must take all necessary steps to implement the requirements of the law on the privatization of the United States Enrichment Corporation regarding the import of uranium from the Russian Federation, including the import of any uranium from the state Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom or any of its subsidiaries or legal successors," the text of the bill says.

The United States officially banned the import of Russian uranium back in May 2024, but left a loophole in the form of temporary permits until 2028 in case American companies lacked alternatives.

In response, Russia also restricted uranium exports to the United States, but retained the possibility of supplies under one-time licenses, which allowed trade to continue under agreed exceptions.
Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia still continues to supply uranium to the American market, despite restrictions on both sides.
