OREANDA-NEWS  The Europeans at the G7 summit failed to win over US President Donald Trump to Ukraine's side. Stanislav Tkachenko, Professor of the Department of European Studies at the Faculty of International Relations at St. Petersburg State University and an expert at the Valdai Club, told the newspaper Vzglyad.

"The European leaders of the G7 had the task of bringing Donald Trump back at least to talk about the Ukrainian crisis," the expert noted.

According to Tkachenko, European politicians are not satisfied with the position of the head of the White House, who believes that the Ukrainian conflict is not "his war." "During the summit in France, they were able to solve the minimum task: Trump uttered the ritual words of support for Ukraine. But there is a caveat. In return, Europe is forced to share the shame of the United States and the responsibility for the conflict in the Middle East," he said.

The expert admitted that if it were not for the war in Iran, Trump would not have supported the formulations of other G7 countries on Ukraine. Thus, the words of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about the alleged "common position on the conflict in Ukraine" are rather a lie and an attempt to wishful thinking, Tkachenko stressed.

Earlier, Politico reported that Trump had reached an agreement with European leaders to support Ukraine at the G7 summit. According to two diplomats, the head of the White House called on his colleagues from the G7 countries to support his deal with Iran and help ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz.
