OREANDA-NEWS The government-owned financial institutions in Turkey have not received any instructions from the central bank regarding the potential easing of sanctions against Russia in the banking sector. They are awaiting a decision on this matter, as a representative of one of the branches of the state-owned Ziraat bank in the Turkish capital told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.
In late February, US President Donald Trump announced that the sanctions against Russia had not been lifted yet, but they would be lifted at some point.
The lifting of US sanctions against Russia would have a positive impact on trade and would help resolve issues related to bank transfers. However, Ankara has not been informed of any specific plans in this regard, as a diplomatic source in the Turkish capital told RIA Novosti earlier.
Initially, we must obtain instructions from the central authority, the Central Bank. However, such guidance is not available at present. Consequently, there have been no changes yet, and we remain hopeful that the matter will be resolved,» the agency's representative responded to a question regarding the potential easing of sanctions against Russia.
The actions taken by Russia and Turkey to address the issue of bank transactions are being closely monitored by their adversaries, and efforts are being made to counteract the agreements, as previously stated by Russian Ambassador to Ankara Alexei Yerkhov.
