OREANDA-NEWS Ukrainian troops shelled Donetsk and four other settlements in the DPR, firing a total of 22 shells, the republic's representative office at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Issues Related to War Crimes of Ukraine (JCCC) reported.
"An attack was recorded by the FFU (armed formations of Ukraine) in the direction of: 05.00 - Novomikhailovka settlement - Dokuchaevsk settlement: four 152 mm caliber shells were fired," the department said in its Telegram channel. The mission added that at 10.30 Ukrainian troops fired six 122 mm shells at Zaitseve, at 11.00 in the Nikitovsky district of Horlivka - six 152 mm shells, and at 11.15 in the Kuibyshev district of Donetsk - three 155 mm shells.
The Russian military is building a line of defense along the entire left bank of the Dnieper, Ekaterina Gubareva, deputy head of the administration of the Kherson region, told RIA Novosti.
"Various kinds of fortifications are being built," she added.
Russia decided to withdraw the military from Kherson — this step was proposed by the commander of the grouping of troops in the special operation zone, Army General Sergei Surovikin. He explained this by the desire to save the lives of soldiers. According to the commander, it is hopeless to hold the defense "on the right bank, in a limited area," therefore, it should be occupied on the left bank of the Dnieper, and the liberated units should be transferred to the offensive in other directions. "I understand that this is a very difficult decision," Surovikin admitted.
