OREANDA-NEWS Work on a possible meeting between the presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, at the APEC summit in China has not yet begun, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said.

"It hasn't started yet," Ushakov said, answering a question from Pavel Zarubin, author of the Vesti news agency.

At the same time, he stressed that the Russian president would obviously attend this summit. "We have received an invitation. (...) So, obviously, our participation will be as planned," said the assistant to the President of the Russian Federation.

The Kremlin expects that Chinese President Xi Jinping, the host of the upcoming APEC summit, will take steps to organize a trilateral meeting with the presidents of Russia and the United States.

"If the US president is there, then I think that the host of this event, President Xi Jinping, will probably take some steps to possibly organize this trilateral meeting," Ushakov said.

The APEC Summit will be held on November 18-19 in Shenzhen.
