OREANDA-NEWS  The United States will be responsible for monitoring the ceasefire, if it happens. This was stated to journalists by the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, quoted in his Telegram channel "RBC-Ukraine".

The politician stressed that this is a very important result of the trilateral negotiations in Geneva. He also added that the military subgroups are conducting constructive negotiations.

"The Americans will be primarily involved in monitoring the ceasefire. And I think this is a very important result that the [negotiating] team has delivered today," he said.

In addition, Zelensky said that Kiev expects to hold a new round of negotiations before the end of February. He also added that the Ukrainian and Russian sides are negotiating a new prisoner exchange.

On February 17 and 18, trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine and the United States on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict took place in Geneva. The head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, described them as "difficult, but businesslike."
