OREANDA-NEWS Vladimir Zelensky has imposed sanctions against businessman and his associate Timur Mindich and his chief financier Alexander Zuckerman, who are involved in a corruption scandal in the energy sector, according to a decree published on Zelensky's website.
On Wednesday, the RBC-Ukraine news agency reported that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will send to the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) a proposal on the imposition of sanctions against Mindich, as well as Zuckerman.
"To support the proposals made by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)," the text of the document says.
According to the decree published on Thursday, Mindich and Zuckerman are Israeli citizens. Sanctions against them are imposed indefinitely for three years.
Sanctions traditionally include the blocking of assets on the territory of Ukraine, the cancellation of licenses, official visits, a ban on the transfer of intellectual property, the termination of trade agreements, cultural exchanges, scientific cooperation, as well as the deprivation of all Ukrainian state awards.
Earlier on Thursday, the Ukrainska Pravda newspaper reported that both defendants are in Israel and are not going to return to Ukraine in order not to receive official charges.
