OREANDA-NEWS. On May 22, 2008 President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko met with Zenon Lomat, the Chairman of the State Control Committee, to receive his report, reported the Official website http://president.gov.by.

Zenon Lomat informed the Head of State on the Committee’s performance over the past four months.

The Committee carried out 3,400 inspections (15 per cent less than in January-April 2007).

Zenon Lomat reported on the results of the checks held at companies to see their progress in implementing the national import-substitution programme. The results showed a lack of commitment on the part of the Ministry of Industry to equipping vehicles with Belarus-manufactured antilock brake systems (ABS) instead of imported ones.

The Head of State demanded that the Committee should toughen its stand on this type of faults.

Zenon Lomat informed the President on the fulfilment of his instruction relating to control over the use of oil products. This year 50 criminal cases were brought to court this year, with 37 of them by the State Control Committee, for violations committed by economic entities and natural persons in this area.

Following presidential instructions, the Committee plans to readjust its work and team up with other bodies and government agencies of Belarus to be able not only to bring to light the facts of infraction of the law, but also to take adequate response measures.
