OREANDA-NEWS The United States' dependence on Russian nuclear fuel is critical to national security. This was stated by Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy of the United States Catherine Hoff in an interview with the Financial Times.

She noted that Washington buys at least 20 percent of nuclear fuel from Russian suppliers. Huff also drew attention to the fact that the active use of such fuel harms the climatic situation in the country.

Earlier, the American newspaper The New York Times wrote that the US nuclear power industry remains dependent on Russian nuclear fuel and continues to pay Moscow about a billion dollars a year for enriched uranium, unable to find an alternative supplier at the same low price.
