OREANDA-NEWS  Investments in the development of an autocluster at the Shushary site of the Saint Petersburg special economic zone (SEZ) will amount to about 55 billion rubles, said Alexander Sitov, head of the city committee on Industrial Policy, Innovation and Trade.

"The parameters of the investment project within the framework of the treasury infrastructure loan we have received look like this - the volume of investments is 55 billion rubles and about 2 thousand jobs are being created," Sitov said at a press conference organized by Interfax on Friday.

In particular, it is planned to build a research center, which will become the first R&D center in the field of passenger cars in the north-west of the Russian Federation.

"A research building with an area of 18,000 square meters is being built for this project, which is planned to be leased to an investor. (...) In addition, the possibility of finding a nearby testing ground for cars is being explored. Plus, there is a functioning Shushary production area nearby, which has historically been a fairly well-developed automotive cluster. A scientific and production division will appear within it," the head of the committee specified.

The details of the project and the investor are not disclosed.

As reported, St. Petersburg will receive 13.1 billion rubles from the federal budget in the form of a treasury infrastructure loan for the implementation of the all-season seaside resort project "St. Petersburg Marina" ("Gorskaya") and the development of the SEZ "St. Petersburg". In particular, about 3.1 billion rubles are planned to be allocated for the development of the SEZ, including the creation of a research and production center for the automotive industry.

The SEZ of the technical and innovative type "Saint Petersburg" began its work in 2007. 66 companies are registered as residents. The SEZ is located on four sites: "Neudorf" with an area of 19 hectares in the village of Strelna, Petrodvorets district, "Novoorlovskaya" (163.3 hectares, Primorsky district), "Parnas" (27.6 hectares, Vyborg district) and "Shushary" (127 hectares, Pushkinsky district).

Currently, Shushary, in particular, houses car factories owned by Aurus (the former site of Japanese Toyota) and AGR (the former site of General Motors).
